EDUCATION
- SINGLE SCHOOL
A
private high school with over 1400 students and
more than 200 workstations had an existing network
that required a number of upgrades to keep up with changes
in technology and meet the needs of a growing student
population. They came to Networks 2000 for assistance
with implementing and managing these changes. After
determining their exact needs and requirements, the
following work was performed:
- Reconfigured
the existing network to access the Internet using
services provided by Southwestern Cable's Road Runner.
- Configured
multiple networks to segregate the student's network
from the administration offices.
- Optimized
the student workstations for network access and security.
- Set
up email services for administrative users through
Post.Office.
- Set
up and configured Internet URL and filtering using
Cyberpatrol's Superscout product for students
and administration, to stop access to inappropriate
web sites. There are two separate networks configured
behind the firewall.
- Implemented
a centrally managed anti-virus protection program
using Norton Antivirus Enterprise.
- Upgraded
their server hardware and Operating system to Netware
6.0 from Netware 4.11.
- Set
up Macintosh services on the Novell servers to provide
access for those workstations, and configured the
server for use by students.
- Implemented
DNS, DHCP, Zenworks and desktop imaging.
We
currently provide ongoing technical support,
including: consulting, server administration and service
and support for hardware and networking issues.
School
management has been very happy with the outcome of these
projects. In addition to providing them with a strong,
stable network that meets their existing needs and allows
for future growth, they have seen a major reduction
in the number of hours their IT employees spend managing
the networks.
By
implementing a firewall, we have given this school peace
of mind, knowing that students and faculty won't be
able to access prohibited sites, and that no one from
the outside will be able to access confidential information.

MEDICAL
This
medical emergency services office came to us with a
number of needs. They were basically starting their
network from scratch and needed us to design and install
an 8-user network and a patient tracking system.
In addition to that tracking system, we performed the
following:
- Implemented
a complete network installation and setup of a Windows
NT server and 8 Windows 98 workstations.
- Installed
and set up network applications, along with the installation
of network printing and faxing capabilities.
- Configured
a backup solution to provide a reliable backup
for their server and as well as their patient database.
- Set
up and configured a centrally monitored and deployed
an anti-virus solution using Symantec software.
- Upgraded
server hardware and Operating system to Windows
2000 and upgraded their critical database application
to a Microsoft SQL server backend.
This
office is now almost completely paperless. Basic patient
information is scanned using the patient's driver's
license and insurance card. Personal histories are typed
into a secure, reliable on-line form. The staff no longer
has the hassle of looking for missing paper records
- they're on the server!
The
patient software installed by Networks 2000 saves the
staff time and aggravation. By typing in a diagnosis
and prescription name, a sheet prints listing drug interactions,
precautions and any other relevant information for the
patient to take home. In addition to time saved, this
allows them to provide a high-quality service to their
patients.
The
outcome has surpassed company management expectations,
both in terms of network stability and level of on-going
service. In addition, by providing them with two hours
of service and support every other week, we have
saved this organization the costs associated with hiring
a fulltime computer professional.

MANUFACTURING
A
battery charger manufacturer company had an existing
25-user NT 3.50 LAN that required a number of
upgrades. We were able to provide them with the following:
- Set
up Internet connectivity for their NT 3.50
Server LAN.
- Integrated
an Internet e-mail system with Microsoft Mail
using Exchange client software.
- Upgraded
their server hardware and operating system to Windows
NT 4.0 and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
messaging.
- Connected
the company to the Internet using a hardware firewall
to provide security and Network Address Translation.
- Configured
Domain Name Service (DNS) and migrated mail from Microsoft
Mail to Microsoft Exchange to enable sending and receiving
of internal as well as Internet email.
- Configured
server and workstation access for remote users
to retrieve email and data files.
The
systems and network were brought up to a stable and
effective standard, requiring minimal management from
their systems administrator.

HOSPITALITY
A
nationally recognized hotel chain came to us to outsource
the IT management at one of their locations, a 30-user
network with 2 Novell Netware 3.2 servers. We contracted
with that location to provide regular network maintenance,
including:
- Fixing
hardware issues, including HP network printers
- Backup
execution for tape backups
- Performing
test restores of backups
- Monitoring
email server, user changes and additions (Pegasus
email server)
- Monitoring
virus issues (Norton Anti-Virus for Servers and
Desktops)
- Dealing
with application issues, including DOS and Windows
Operating Systems, MS Office, a Legacy DOS
hotel management package and various accounting applications
Networks
2000 has completely taken over the network support for
this hotel. We provide weekly, scheduled, onsite support
and network maintenance and work closely with hotel
personnel to determine speedy resolutions to problems
as they occur.
Should
the need arise, we are also available to this client
for emergency calls. By providing them with ongoing
network support, they do not need to hire a full time
Network Administrator.
