Business Challenge:

A software and document storage provider with an outdated server was concerned about the security of their network and the increased amount of storage they needed. It was years since they last upgraded their network, and they wanted to stay current with the latest technology. They urgently needed an upgrade in order to increase their storage, comply with the most recent privacy laws, and protect their systems from viruses and outside intruders.

Our Recommendations:

We suggested upgrading from Windows Small Business Server 2000 (SBS) to SBS 2003. This would create a more secure, reliable and up-to-date solution.

What We Did:

  • Upgraded from SBS 2000 to SBS 2003 and discussed the new set up and how to run critical Anti-virus updates
  • Updated virus software to Symantec 9.0. Veritas for Windows Server and Symantec for Exchange Server
  • Implemented a Virtual Private Network (VPN), to link a number of remote workstations and improve the accessibility of remote network management
  • Set up Backup Exec for their expanded backup requirements
  • Checked to make sure the new system was set up to comply with HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley laws

How We Helped:

Since receiving an SBS 2003 upgrade, they have increased their storage capacity by 40%. They now have the capacity to store all of their current files with room to grow. They also have heightened security due to the network upgrade they've received, which helps keep their system virus-free and running smoothly.

Business Challenge:

An electronics manufacturer had an existing network server which required a number of upgrades. They stressed the importance of having remote access so their traveling employees could easily access work files from a PDA or cell phone. Since they currently have a small IT team that is extremely busy, they needed some experienced outside help to handle the project in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

What We Did:

  • Migrated the entire server and e-mail network to SBS 2003
  • Integrated an Internet e-mail system using Exchange Server 2003
  • Migrated messages from Microsoft Mail to Microsoft Exchange to enable sending and receiving of internal and Internet e-mail.
  • Set up Internet connectivity with a firewall to provide heightened security
  • Informed users of their remote access options for retrieving e-mail and files:
    • Outlook Web Access (OWA) - Enables remote Web access from a PDA or cell phone
  • Installed the following software:
    • Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise
    • DoubleCheck - Anti-virus, anti-spam appliance server solution
  • Provided an HP Care Pack - 3 yrs on-site computer network maintenance and coverage

How We Helped:

Now they are able to run their systems with minimal management from their administrator. This allows their current IT team to focus on the smaller day to day issues that arise within the office.

In order to prevent any disastrous network failures or business disruptions, we currently provide outsourced IT support for their major network needs.
